Prof.sARA KIM

Sara was born in Daejeon/South Korea in 1988. She received her first violin lessons at the age of seven in Moscow. After studying music at the Gnessin Special School and the Gnessin Music Academy, she began her studies at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin with Prof. Michael Vogler in 2006, which she completed with a diploma in 2010. She then switched to the viola and completed a master's degree with Prof. Friedemann Weigle, also at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music. During her time in Berlin, she also studied in the chamber music class of the famous Artemis Quartet. She then went on to study at the Berlin University of the Arts and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.

After some experience as a substitute in the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester-Berlin, Sara was principal viola of the Staatsorchester Braunschweig and then the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig from 2013 to 2019. In the summer of 2016, she took part in the Bayreuth Wagner Festival Orchestra as a tutti player. She has also played as a guest principal with various orchestras, including the MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Lower Saxony State Orchestra Hanover. Sara was a lecturer in viola at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. She currently teaches at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig.
